Who would win a fight between a tiger and a lion?

Tigers are the largest but lions are regarded as the toughest

Who would win a fight between a tiger and a lion?
There's only one thing you need to know

A lion would win because unlike tigers they have more experience fighting other lions and bigger prey(hippos)

A tiger might be stronger but experience is what counts
Reply:a lion would win see them fight and the lion wins Report It

Reply:The powerful one...

It does not matter if its lion or tiger, the one which is younger (more energetic) plus experienced wins. Each animal has different characteristics. There are humans who win against Lion or Tiger. A reindeer may kill a tired old Lion. A cat may beat the dog.
Reply:mmmm my money would be on the lion
Reply:I'd bet on the tiger.
Reply:Tiger...
Reply:Given a fight between an adult lion and a tiger cub, lion will win.

Given a fight between an adult male lion and a female tiger, lion will win.

Given a fight between an adult healthy lion and an adult sick tiger, lion will win.

Tiger will win in a fight between an adult male lion and an adult male tiger.

Tiger will win in a fight between an adult female lion and an adult female tiger.
Reply:A Liger...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liger
Reply:if lions are tougher, then of course the lion would win. just like David and Goliath.
Reply:tigers :E tigers are faster than lion i guess.
Reply:The one that gets a hold of the others throat first will win Im sure.
Reply:I worked with lions and tigers for over 7 years (see my icon) and have witnessed lion vs tiger play fights. You have to consider more than just their size and strength. Lions have to survive by fighting through several stages of their lives. They are completely dominated and picked on by older sub adults when they are cubs and as adults have to fight strange lions, hyenas, fend off water buffalo, elephants and leopards. They become experienced fighters if they survive to adulthood. Take a look at pictures of wild lions and see how scarred they ususally are.

Tigers, on the other hand, do not really have any other types of animals to fight with than eachother. Only females with cubs and males meeting up with other males on chance encounters fight. These fights are usually about 90% bluff and only 10% physical.

If a wild lion and a wild tiger were forced to fight, then I would have to bet on the lion to come out as the winner.

Our captive cats at the rescue who led much safer and easier lives, only play fought and rarely got into serious altercations. But usually, and especially when food was involved, the lions would win because they would be the aggressors and would strike out at the tigers first, since instinctively lions had to be very aggressive if they were to get any food from a kill since they had to share a kill with every lion in their pride.

Tigers can get bigger than lions and have longer limbs, but lions are much tougher when it comes to fighting due to their instincts.
Reply:Is very unlikely that the Lion and Tiger would ever meet in the wild a large ocean separating them however if they did come across each other in the wild then. As Tigers are generally solitary animals and Lions are pride creatures to get a one on one fight is very unlikely, the Lion pride would come out on top.

If the situation did occur for a one on one Lion, Tiger fight then I would say the Tiger has to be favourite.
Reply:A tiger, 'cause they're stripey.
Reply:There was a great deal of lion and tiger pit fighting held in Korea until 1960. Historic reports say the lion was found very difficult to beat, again due to the head protection afforded by the mane. …

At this stage the Koreans were using Amur (Siberian) tigers. Being unhappy with the performance of this big cat, and its unwillingness to fight, they extended their search for a tiger which was more vicious. …

Tigers will usually avoid such a powerful foe, but eventually these huge animals will run into each other. Often the bear is trying to steal the tiger’s kill. The tiger gives a better account of itself in a bear fight than the lion. The bear does not go in for strangulation or nape biting, but uses his paws to rain blows to the head and shoulders. Possibly this removes any advantage of a mane.

therefore a tiger would win
Reply:I believe the lion would win.

An even more intriguing question is, in a fight between a male lion and a female lion, who would win?

In that case, I'd put my money on the female. They are charged with the responsibility in most cases of running down and killing the prey and bringing it home to the kiddies for dinner, driving off dad -- perhaps many times -- in the process. Tough ladies.
Reply:It depend on the sex of the lion, a tiger would be able to overpower a female lion quite easily.

If they were equally matched in size and age, it then might just be who get the first good bite in.
Reply:a tiger they are bigger and faster
Reply:Tigers are more independent fighters while lions hunt in groups. Female lions

groups do most of the hunting, while the males do little in comparison.

Male tigers would be a safe bet in one to one contest with male lions. Female

tigers are probably the most outstanding of the lot.

But there is a sight that tells more about actuall fights one in captivity and one in the wild...

1. *The first documents an event set up to entertain a prince. The fight took place in the pit of a palace compound with the entire encounter being recorded.

The film showed that the tiger was at an immediate disadvantage. Tigers use a throat grip as their primary means of killing and the lion's thick protective mane prevented the tiger gaining a hold on the throat joint. On the other hand, the tiger had no special protection, so was vulnerable to attack.

In this fight, the tiger was killed.

2. *The second piece of film dates back to the 1930s and is still under investigation by this site. The documentary owner has yet to view more than a few portions of it and until the film can be converted to a more easily viewed format little more progress can be made on reviewing this piece.

As far as can be ascertained, the film was taken during an expedition to capture some tigers in the Gir region of India. Again, the tiger was the loser.

but then its really your opinion ^^
Reply:i think tiger but according to a t.v programme called animal face off, the lion would.
Reply:Lion.
Reply:tough one!
