A question about great cats...?

Why do we call the (adorable, cute, fluffy) offspring of great cats "cubs"?

Bears have cubs.

Tigers, lions, pumas, leopards %26amp; even cheetahs should be said to have KITTENS....don't you agree?

I am completely serious.

A question about great cats...?
LOL. You're RIGHT. I never thought of it before, from now on in my biology class I'm going to call them Lion %26amp; Tiger KITTENS. (I hope you don't mind)
Reply:people just got lazy
Reply:because they are larger than housecats.

You might as well ask why some languages have several words for snow.
Reply:idk

i hate cats

not cute!!!!

vicious!!!

i love dogs!

lol
Reply:makes sence to me.
Reply:'Cub' is the term for young of carnivores - wolves, bears, lions, etc.

Maybe we should call the offpsring of domestic cats 'cubs' or 'cubettes.'
Reply:I am not sure, but I do know that remembering the correct terms for different groups of animals used to be one of the ways you knew if a person belonged in elite society. You know a mob of crows, a pod of whales, etc. It might have been the same thing.
