Could somebody please explain to me in the context of their religious belief, why is there so much similarity between certain animals that they can be easily "grouped"?
For example, it's obvious that lions, tigers, puma, lynx, jaguar, domestic cats etc etc are all members of the cat family. As a second example, there are thousands of species of beetle, but all beetles conform to the same basic body form – one that they share, incidentally, with other hexapod insects. Why?
And that's just physical similarity – what about genetic similarity? Why is a North American coyote so genetically similar to a European fox?
If God created every species individually, why the similarities? Why isn't there infinite biodiversity? Wouldn't evolution from respective common ancestors explain this phenomenon just as well as devine creation?
I'm looking forward to some interesting – an hopefully enlightening - answers. Thanks in advance, and apologies to anybody offended by this question :)
God created animals?
I personally believe that God as He is an righteous being meaning that He has to follow His own laws (gravity, cause and effect, inertia, etc). Whether by using science (that may or may not have been discovered yet) his miracles can be explained or will be explained. This I believe includes (to some degree) evolution. No one will be able to explain what exactly happened (except the Omnipotent) because He's the one who's seen it all happen. History teaches us a theory that at one point all of the land mass on our planet was connected at one point and that mass was separated by some catastrophe beit a meteor hitting Earth, a great earthquake and so on we were once put together. In the travelling of these animals they were split up each having a resemblence to those of their families and then adapting each to their own new enviornement (or evolving) or people travel and with them go animals (Horses aren't native to America but they roam wild here as well) Also (I'm Mormon and we believe- I think it might not be doctrine) that a year to God is not the same time to us. One day to Him is 1,000 yrs to us and a LOT can happen if you think of it like that. If you want concrete evidence I'm sure a scientist has a theory or two. None of which will shake my belief in God but rather reinforce it. Let me know what you find out. I'd like to know on a scientific level.
Reply:Because God is nature.
God is all powerful. All things come from nature.
God is ever present. Nature is everywhere.
God is all powerful. The Laws of Nature apply to all without favor.
Reply:Certain animals share similar traits because they work and are beneficial to keep them alive. Actually many diverse organisms such as tiny worms, flies, higher animals and humans share many similarities with one another.
Things that are important to us such as cancer research use some of the most primitive animals to study, for one because its easier for us to understand the processes involved. However, many of the same processes like the cell cycle and the particular genes involved are almost identical to those found in humans. In fact, often a specific gene can be inserted into a different species (after removing its counterpart in that species first) and it still works!
Why? We say that they are conserved. Why re-invent the wheel if you don't have to?
So in terms of your cat looking like a puma. The fact is that both cats are remarkably successful in surviving. So if many of their features, body shape, behavior, etc give them a survival advantage then why change it?
In terms of religious belief you can, if you wish, interpret this that they were created this way because God knew what each species needed to survive.
People who believe in evolution think that evolution is what causes the conservation of beneficial genes, proteins...behaviors, etc.
Reply:The Bible says he created them, look in Genesis. :)
Reply:If you check genesis, you will see God created "kinds" not species. What is a kind? Is it s species? A phylum? A class? A kingdom? Who knows.
Reply:no god is not making more animals because i was in religion and my teacher said that god stop making animals species and he also said that it will take us a very long time to find them all
Reply:Well, of course. But of believers thought this, then they would have to accept that humans and apes have common ancestors. i don't come from no apes is a common response from them.
Reply:My question has always been: if macroevolution is true, then why didn't every life form advance at the same or very similar rate? I'd think that we'd have the exact opposite - limited or no biodiversity if God DIDN'T create all lifeforms.
Reply:There is nothing in the Bible that refers to evolution. There is nothing in the Bible that refers to Ireland. Yet Ireland exists.
I also resent the fact when someone says all Christians believe in Creationism or Intelligent Design. Roman Catholics don't.
In Catholicism we are taught that the Old Testament is Religious truth, not historical fact.
We are also taught, science must be allowed to discover truth on its own without guidance of faith.
The Bible is a guide to how we should live our lives, it is not like the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Reply:Well there are two types of religious views on this subject.
1) The moronic view - that everything is exactly as the bible says (which i sadly see that many of the foolish posters here believe). This means the universe is thousands of years old not billions. Really REALLY idiotic in the light of all the proof we have that goes far beyond this.
then
2) The Realistic view - that the bible is actually just alegory and all it is is a vehicle for the views of jesus. That we live like him and do good for one another. This view is not mutually exclusive to the big bang and evolution.
Those who adhere to 2 are generaly the more educated of the religious people, those who understand that god may well have created everything but all the horror of the bible (and if you disagree with this statement you CLEARLY have never read it, even the new testament is full of rape etc in the name of god) is just flotsum and jetsum, rubbish that people used to control those around them.
Those who adhere to 1 are scary scary people. Not only do they think we are supposed to believe in the word of the bible to the letter they are in fact so ignorant that they are willing to ignore science. Well not all of it, im sure they take their medications (that god did not create by the way) and watch their televisions.
I was educated by christian brothers (most of which were actually athiests interestingly) who taught us that we should live like jesus but we should also believe in science. They also taught us from a very early age that most of the content of the bible is fiction and should be treated as such. Provided we are good to one another we will all have a good life.
So to my point. Anyone who responds that god did this for whatever reason IS A COMPLETE MORON. If god really exists (and i personally dont believe in god but clearly something or someone spawned our universe) why does he have to be mutually exclusive from evolution? surely if he is so great he has a lot more to do with his time than to dote on our animals etc and define them all exactly. If he knows all science and all philosophy surely it would be more interesting to him to sit back and enjoy the show. He didnt create the animals, he simply created the environment in which stars and planets would form and some of those planets would generate life and some of that life would continue to evolve.
I am sure he is proud of us but I am also sure that he would be very embarrased (if not infuriated) that we believe in a book that was put together to maintain political power and control the masses.
Reply:The creation record found in the first chapter of Genesis reveals that God created earth’s living things “according to their kinds.” (Ge 1:11, ) Toward the end of the sixth creative day the earth was supplied with a great variety of basic created “kinds,” which included very complex forms of life. These were endowed with the capacity for reproducing offspring “according to their kind(s)” in a fixed, orderly manner.
The Biblical “kinds” seem to constitute divisions of life-forms wherein each division allows for cross-fertility within its limits. If so, then the boundary between “kinds” is to be drawn at the point where fertilization ceases to occur.
In recent years, the term “species” has been applied in such a manner as to cause confusion when it is compared with the word “kind.” The basic meaning of “species” is “a sort; kind; variety.” In biologic terminology, however, it applies to any group of interfertile animals or plants mutually possessing one or more distinctive characteristics. Thus, there could be many such species or varieties within a single division of the Genesis “kinds.”
Reply:Not a very imaginative deity, is he?
Reply:Yes, God created animals. God allowed Adam name them all and gave dominion over all the animals. During the time of A dam and Eve the continents were probally closer together or maybe one or two masses. The great flood during Moses time prabally separated the land masses. Example,, consider the Grand Canyon.Land masses were probally not separated then, and people and animals and creatures were able to walk across one land mass to another then with no separations with oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, ponds tributaries. Hope no one is offended, Adam named Eve and he probally ran out of names, personally, I BELIEVE that the PLATAPUS ( please forgive my spelling) was something Adam just sneezed at, and that's how it got its name. Everything else is just perfect.
Reply:First you need to know that if science dug up unquestionable proof that man evolved... still I would not believe it. Because... having sought God, I have experienced Him...feel His presence and yes He has even spoken to me. To the carnal, those going to hell... I'm either coo coo or engaging one of many gods. I want you to know that I realize that. Many many people have had supernatural experiences.
You have been told that without Christ, hell awaits. I am bearing witness that God is alive and well.
Now, to your question. Wouldn't it be a better question to ask why each animal stays within its kind? How come we don't see weird crosses between animals? You can't mate an elephant with a tiger, etc. God made each after it's kind, and so it remains!!
Reply:because like it says in genesis God had animals re-produce across the planet.from birds, ect
Reply:don't expect any intelligent responses from christians. they think science is of the devil.
